Belangrijkste inzichten

Vergeven houdt afstand, dankbaarheid geeft kracht

Amor Fati vraagt training

0If you are not grateful for everything there is in your life, you are rejecting yourself. I believe that if you feel grateful for everything there is, at that moment you truly accept yourself. Because everything you lived through in the past makes you the person who you are right now. If you look at your past and you see see good things that happened to you. They shaped you just a little bit.
0:45
0But if you look at your past. And you see the negative things. They shape you. In a great manner. And what they do is they teach you very fast.
1:04
0Competence. Qualities, talents. Because when life gets heavy, you start to grow. Your mind starts to adapt very fast. So because of the negative things you look at your past and you say these are negative things.
1:28
0If you look at in that way. You will feel. Negative. You feel angry or sad. But if you can look at these moments in your past or just now, because maybe you are in a sad place right now.
1:51
0And if you can see. What generates? In your mind, in your brain, the competence, the instincts of your brain to survive, then you can feel the power it gives you right now, because you survived everything until now. That's because your brain adapts all the time. And a lot of people say, okay, I can forgive my past.
2:35
0I can forgive all the people in my past, but that's passive. It's keeping everything in a distance, including yourself, because when you look at your past and maybe someone bullied you. You think about it and you think, Okay, I will forgive this person. It's not giving you strength. It's not giving you power.
3:09
0It can be a first step. I don't say, Okay, go to be grateful immediately. It can be the first step. But it's still passive. It's still like, yeah.
3:24
0I will forgive this person. Okay, great, But maybe, just maybe you feel a lot of power when you say, hey man, you bullied me and. Because of that, I learned this and this and this. And I start to be grateful for it and it gives me power because these things gave me the talent or competence to do that. If you don't look it at that, at the moment you think about your talents and your competence and you attach the negative things in the past to it, you will always feel small, because it always comes with a but.
4:16
0But if you say, thank you, you made my life tough, and because of that I learned this and now I can do that. See what it does to you. Watch out, this is not a trick to say, yeah, I'm grateful for everything in my past, and just do it with your head, you have to feel it. That's why I say, okay, it can be acceptance first, forgiveness and then gratefulness. But that's the true meaning of Amor Fati.
4:52
0A lot of people Explain it in a passive way, Amofati. Amofati is very active. You have to train for it. You have to take action for it. But most of all, have to be grateful for everything in your life, including the person in the mirror.
5:17
0I can say, Okay, my mother. I grew up with my mother. And she was an alcoholic. And in her mind she was crazy, so to say. So every evening she was drunk.
5:35
0Every evening we had a fight. It made me decide to shut down my feelings, so in my youth I couldn't grow relationships, not with a partner, not with friends. I can stay mad at her. She passed away in 2015. And five hours before she passed away, I say thank you for everything.
6:03
0At that moment I saw in her face she was incurable. I saw in her face acceptance of, okay, I did it in the best way I could, because she couldn't do it better. And therefore I can still stay mad at my mother or can say, okay, because she was drunk every night, I learned how to read people. I learned how to be secure, confident about myself. I learned how to take ownership.
6:42
0I learned communicating very well. I learned how to play hide and seek very well. So there are a lot of things I can get mad of. But when I look at the talents and the competence that gave me. At that moment I can accept myself and be grateful for the person who I am right now today.
7:08
0And yeah, I still have my failures and I still have to grow and I want to grow, I want to learn, I'm eager to learn. But it starts with the reality being grateful for the person I am today. And I wish that for you as well, that you can say this in the mirror: I love you, I am grateful for myself. That's what you want to say and feel in every fiber of your body.

Veelgestelde vragen
